CELEBRATING
600!!!
November 22,
2010
The Canadian
Improv Showcase was formed in 1997 by Matthew R. Lawrence, then a struggling
actor, now a highly recognizable talent from Canadian film & television.
The group was created to give Canadian talent an opportunity to keep their
skills sharp while they endured the long time between acting gigs. But the
group blossomed naturally and became what it is today: a recognizable force in
the Canadian comedy landscape.
Utilizing the best comedic talent the GTA has to offer, the Canadian Improv
Showcase or CiS as they are often called, are able to offer a fantastic array
of programmes at the very best price! The fact that they have celebrated 300
& 600 is huge because, unlike their major competition who own their own
theatres, CiS go from place to place like comedy gypsies, peddling their wears
where ever they can. And they have amassed quite a collection of feathers in their caps as the group was
the first improv company to perform at the St. Lawrence Centre for the
Performing Arts, they were voted ‘best of fest’ two years in a row at both the
London & Toronto Fringe Festivals, they were selected to represent Canada
in a cultural exchange and performed in Singapore to capacity audiences and
they even performed their ‘healing power of laughter’ programme at the infamous
Kingston Penitentiary where they worked with a very captive audience…
The list of
accomplishments goes on and on. And in this economic climate a group that is
able to stay afloat for 13 years with no government support, should be
celebrated. I guess that means they have 3 things to celebrate!
