Angèle Morgan
Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario Angèle is the daughter of two lawyers and neither of them has any idea where the genes for their artsy weirdo only child came from.
As a child, Angèle’s performance experience was limited to playing Dorothy Deer in her grade school’s production of “Give A Hoot Don’t Pollute,” Peasant #2 in her seventh grade production of “Prince Percy of Pomegranate,” and a sheep in a Christmas nativity play. After a terrible 8th grade summer drama camp experience, Angèle shelved any ideas of becoming an actor and spent her teen years writing angry poetry and playing heavy metal songs on her guitar.
Upon high school graduation Angèle moved to Toronto to attend York University’s Film & Video Production program. In her second year she co-starred in York’s production of Eve Ensler’s "The Vagina Monologues" – the experience was brilliant and life-changing. While still attending film school she began taking acting classes at Seneca College and it was at there that she got her first taste of improv. After graduating from film school with Honours, Angèle spent a year and a half working in a vegetarian restaurant in order to complete her Theatrical Performance Certificate and perform for the first time at Toronto’s Second City.
Using the money she’d managed to save up to that point Angèle travelled to beautiful New Zealand and spent a year travelling and working. It was in Aotearoa (the Maori word for New Zealand) that Angèle had her first professional acting gig as a guest actor on the Kiwi medical soap opera Shortland Street. She also studied and performed at Auckland’s Covert Theatre (New Zealand’s home of Improv and Sketch Comedy), acted in 2 short films, and made lasting friends as part of the cast of Auckland University’s production of “The Revenger’s Tragedy”.
Upon returning to Canada, Angèle attended cooking school at Algonquin College in order to get a day job as a cook so she could seriously pursue acting. Since then she has graduated from the Second City’s Conservatory Program, performed at various venues around Toronto, and studied and performed at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade in New York City.
Angèle is now a cast member in the Second City’s new Puppet Company and has recently completed three sessions as part of the cast of The Bench (also at Second City). She is also currently working on a web series about Canadian politics in which she co-stars with a beaver.
Angèle is delighted to be a part of the Canadian Improv Showcase and looks forward to learning and growing with her fellow CiS-ers.
Angèle loves kittens, ice cream, and the word “pamplemousse.” Her favourite movie is Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. Seriously.
