Community Theatre Programmes

An actor has to start somewhere and that somewhere is often community theatre: a great place to learn the basics of performing and gain experience. Many of the members of the Canadian Improv Showcase started in community theatre and these programmes are their way of giving back.

Youth Programme:
This programme is offered to provide a good foundation for acting. While strengthening theatre basics, this programme will allow youth to learn the joys of improv and gain comfort on stage while helping to eliminate stage fright. It will help build instincts that will support them during scripted performances as well as build listening skills, team work, self-confidence and self-esteem. It will also help focus and concentration as well as encourage risk taking and leadership. The workshop is offered at a variety of age levels and is presented in an open format. Participants will get a chance to work with industry professionals and are encouraged to ask questions.

Adult Programme:
This programme is much like the youth based programme, but geared towards adults and their experience level. The same benefits apply. The programme starts with an introduction and assessment of experience and skill level. This is followed by a dialogue of what participants wish to gain from the workshop and what areas they wish to focus on. From there the participants will work with the actors in various short scenes followed by discussion to aid the learning process. Creativity is encouraged and no harsh judgement or criticism will be given.

Fundraising Programme:
This programme is often combined with a workshop. The workshop could take place during the day and in the evening, the members of the Canadian Improv Showcase could perform for the benefit of the community theatre group. The rates for this programme are either set ahead of time based on potential profit or a percentage of profit. The idea is for the community group to make money to fund their events and productions so rates are very reasonable. Often these performances, when booked in conjunction with a workshop, are more interactive than any other as there is a familiarity created from the day’s events.

These are the basic programmes offered. If you are looking for something else please inquire and we would be happy to accommodate your needs specifically.
