York Region: Canada’s premier improv company is turning 10! On March 10th, 2007 the Canadian Improv Showcase will celebrate their 10th anniversary. At press time, the group has performed 439 shows spanning the globe and they show no sign of slowing down.

“We are still going strong. We ride the waves of ups and downs that go along with being a live theatre group and we persevere” said creative director, creator, host and actor Matthew R. Lawrence. “The group has exceeded all my expectations as far as quality and ability is concerned and the only accolade we have not achieved is a network television contract.” The group was on hold with the CBC years ago, awaiting the green light to go into production, but the trend away from comedy and towards drama and reality television did them in. But they didn’t sit back and wait for opportunity to come to them, they moved on and expanded into new markets, which has blossomed into a fantastic array of programmes for schools, corporations and much, much more! They have won countless improv tournaments and hold such monuments as being the only improv company to perform at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Performing Arts. They traveled to Singapore in 2004 as part of a cultural exchange and were the first group to perform in that countries converted parliament building turned stage. They showcased their talents to capacity crowds and received countless standing ovations.

“We recently held auditions to add some new talent and we’re gearing up for the spring season. The future looks bright for us and it’s all due to our dedication to quality entertainment and our ability to keep our heads up and keep trying” added Mr. Lawrence.
