REPRESENTING CANADA IN LOS ANGELES

June 2, 2010

Toronto: Canada is known for its comedy and at the upcoming 8th Annual Los Angeles Comedy Improv Festival the great white north will be well represented by Canada’s premiere touring improv company: The Canadian Improv Showcase.

“As far as I can tell, we’re the only Canadian group in the entire festival” commented Creative Director & Producer Matthew R. Lawrence. “Either way, we’re thrilled to be selected and to represent our great nation” he added.

The group was selected after submitting a simple one-page form and a link to the video on their website – and, of course, the entry fee. According to festival personnel, this year saw more entrants than ever before, which makes the selection even sweeter!

The group is made up of 14 professional actors from all over the GTA and Mr. Lawrence had to select  just 6 of them to join him; not an easy task. “It came down to a whole bunch of criteria and in the end I am thrilled with the talented cast joining me in L.A.” Joining him in Los Angeles will be long time cast members Alan Harrington (Burlington), Adam Risbridger (Richmond Hill), Adrianne Marcucci (Etobicoke) as well as newer members Tony Babcock (Toronto), Shauna Wiley (Welland) and their newest member James Jabbour (Markham) who is acting as the back-up as well as documentarian for the trip.

“Overall it is going to be a fantastic experience. This is an opportunity of a lifetime and we will make the best of it. After all, Mike Myers and Jim Carrey had to start somewhere, and who knows who might see us, love us and give us our next big break” uttered Matthew.

The 8th Annual Los Angeles Comedy Improv Festival is from June 7th to the 12th and the Canadian Improv Showcase will be putting on a workshop about group chemistry on June 10th at 10:00 AM followed by their one and only performance that same evening at 8:00 PM.
